Some jobs here cannot be discussed over dinner. Carrying what you cannot talk about is its own particular weight.
You would never speak to a colleague the way you speak to yourself about a small mistake. We look at where that voice came from.
None of this means something is wrong with you. It means your nervous system has been doing its job for a long time without a break.
The work
We gently work with the experiences your body still carries, at a pace that you can handle.
You're not a list of problems to fix. We build on the resilience that's already gotten you this far.
You'll learn to recognize and settle the anxiety, over-alertness, and shutdown underneath the overthinking.
Together we practice saying no, asking for what you need, and letting other people carry their own feelings.
We name the relational loops you keep landing in, so you can finally choose something different.
Together we identify coping strategies that actually work for you, and find ways to put them to use in your life.
Practical details
Sessions are by video, which in this corridor usually means the difference between keeping an appointment and cancelling it because of traffic.
I'm licensed in Virginia as a LCSW, and every session happens by secure video. I don't keep an office in Arlington or anywhere else. The one rule that matters is location: you need to be physically in Virginia when we meet, because that's where my license lets me practice.
Fees & insurance
In Virginia I work on a private-pay basis; I don't bill insurance directly here, which keeps your care entirely between us.
Many clients still receive partial reimbursement: most PPO plans include out-of-network mental-health benefits. I can provide a superbill, a detailed receipt formatted for insurance, on request, which you submit to your insurer. A simple first step is to call the number on your card and ask, "What are my out-of-network mental-health benefits, and how do I submit a superbill?"
About
I'm Ashley, a licensed trauma therapist working by telehealth with clients in Virginia and two other states. I see high-functioning people who are quietly exhausted from holding it all together, warmly and at your pace, building on what's already strong in you.
More about meQuestions
In a concrete way, yes. Billing insurance requires submitting a diagnosis and clinical information to the insurer, which becomes part of your record with them. Private pay means that exchange never happens; your care stays between us. I can still provide a superbill if you want to pursue out-of-network reimbursement yourself.
We meet by secure, HIPAA-compliant video at a scheduled time, just as we would in an office, only you join from wherever you feel most comfortable and private. You get a link, click it at your appointment time, and we talk. Most people find it feels natural within the first few minutes.
Yes. Research consistently finds that virtual therapy is comparable to in-person care for anxiety, depression, and trauma. For many people it is actually easier to open up from their own space, and removing the commute makes it far more sustainable to keep going.
Yes. Sessions are held over secure, HIPAA-compliant video. I ask that you join from a private space where you won't be overheard, and I treat everything we discuss with the same confidentiality as in-person care.
It depends on your state. In Maryland I'm in-network with Aetna, Optum, United Healthcare, Oscar, and Oxford. In Utah I'm in-network with Aetna, Optum, United Healthcare, Oscar, Oxford, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you're using insurance we can verify your benefits together, so you'll know what sessions will cost. If you're paying out of pocket, you can check with your insurer before we get started to get an idea of what they'll cover. In Virginia I work on a private-pay basis and can provide a superbill you submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
My fee is $145 for a 50-minute session, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill on request.
