In Virginia I work on a private-pay basis, and for many of the people I see that is part of the appeal. When you do not run therapy through insurance, there is no required diagnosis in your record, no utilization reviewer deciding you have had "enough" sessions, and no paper trail beyond the two of us.

The clients who find their way here, often professionals in Northern Virginia and around Richmond, are high-functioning by every outward measure and quietly stretched thin underneath it. We work with the experiences your body still carries, and we do it privately.

The work

How I help clients heal

Trauma-focused therapy

We gently work with the experiences your body still carries, at a pace that you can handle.

A strengths-based approach

You're not a list of problems to fix. We build on the resilience that's already gotten you this far.

Nervous-system regulation

You'll learn to recognize and settle the anxiety, over-alertness, and shutdown underneath the overthinking.

Boundary work

Together we practice saying no, asking for what you need, and letting other people carry their own feelings.

Seeing the pattern

We name the relational loops you keep landing in, so you can finally choose something different.

Tools that work

Together we identify coping strategies that actually work for you, and find ways to put them to use in your life.

Statewide by video

A trauma therapist for anyone in Virginia

I see clients across Virginia by secure video, from the Northern Virginia and DC-metro area down to Richmond and beyond.

Because sessions are virtual, you can work with me from anywhere in Virginia, whether you live in a major city, a suburb, or a rural area. What matters is that you're physically inVirginia at the time of our session.

Fees & insurance

Fees & reimbursement for Virginia clients

In Virginia I work on a private-pay basis; I don't bill insurance directly here. The reassuring part: your care stays entirely between us.

  • $145 per 50-minute session.
  • I provide a superbill on request: a detailed receipt for insurance.

Many clients still receive partial reimbursement: most PPO plans include out-of-network mental-health benefits. I can provide a superbill, a detailed receipt formatted for insurance, on request, which you submit to your insurer. A simple first step is to call the number on your card and ask, "What are my out-of-network mental-health benefits, and how do I submit a superbill?"

About

Who you'd be working with

I'm Ashley, a licensed trauma therapist serving Virginia and two other states by telehealth. I work with high-functioning individuals who are quietly exhausted from holding it all together, warmly and at your pace, building on what's already strong in you.

Questions

Online therapy in Virginia: your questions answered

How does online therapy work?

We meet by secure, HIPAA-compliant video at a scheduled time, just as we would in an office, only you join from wherever you feel most comfortable and private. You get a link, click it at your appointment time, and we talk. Most people find it feels natural within the first few minutes.

Is telehealth therapy actually effective?

Yes. Research consistently finds that virtual therapy is comparable to in-person care for anxiety, depression, and trauma. For many people it is actually easier to open up from their own space, and removing the commute makes it far more sustainable to keep going.

Can I work with you if I live in a different city than you?

Absolutely. Because sessions are virtual, you can work with me from anywhere in Maryland, Virginia, or Utah: a major city, a quiet suburb, or a rural area. What matters is that you are physically located in one of the states where I am licensed at the time of our session.

Is virtual therapy secure and private?

Yes. Sessions are held over secure, HIPAA-compliant video. I ask that you join from a private space where you won't be overheard, and I treat everything we discuss with the same confidentiality as in-person care.

Do you take insurance?

It depends on your state. In Maryland I'm in-network with Aetna, Optum, United Healthcare, Oscar, and Oxford. In Utah I'm in-network with Aetna, Optum, United Healthcare, Oscar, Oxford, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you're using insurance we can verify your benefits together, so you'll know what sessions will cost. If you're paying out of pocket, you can check with your insurer before we get started to get an idea of what they'll cover. In Virginia I work on a private-pay basis and can provide a superbill you submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

What are your rates?

My fee is $145 for a 50-minute session, and the first 15-minute consultation is free. If you plan to use out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill on request.

Not in Virginia?

I also see clients across Maryland and Utah.
